The Crystalline Knowledge of You
Alumni Interview with Shelley Kaehr, Ph.D.,
Author of
Gemstone Journeys

by Mary Grace McCord

Swirling amidst a twinkling field of vibrant crystal wisdom, Gemstone Journeys is indeed a rare find.

Already in its second printing and radiating high praise from metaphysicians such as Gregg Braden and the Edgar Cayce Foundation, each gem-story within Shelley Kaehr’s treasure trove dances with the confident energy of self-discovery.

Boldly spontaneous, this AIHT doctoral alumna’s life journeys inquisitively answer the far-away beckonings of

many other cultures, ancient and modern. Ultimately the wanderer always returns home, where she diligently and joyfully records all findings into books, conferences and vast media outreach.

Exploring the ageless truths of this world and other realms—from earthbound gemstones to universal mysticism, the holographic power of our ethereal human energy fields, and more—her seven books encompass near-death and other-worldly experiences with high-beams that “seek” into the shadowy sacred ruins of Peru, Egypt and Greece.

After surviving a near-death experience and a long illness several years ago, Shelley left her corporate reality and entered the more ethereal world of holistic healing, eventually becoming a leading authority on her unique combination of energy healing and mind-body medicine. Her work has been praised by the likes of Brian Weiss, M.D., author of Same Soul, Many Bodies, and Raymond Moody, M.D., author of Life After Life.

As in the pronunciation of her surname, Shelley’s “Care” and her calling is to advance the exciting wisdom of vibrational healing and quantum physics by helping people understand that the quality of each individual thought does indeed help or hinder our entire universe’s collective consciousness.

As host for 18 months of Dallas-based Beyond Reality, a weekly radio talk show whose guests ranged from the psychospiritual medical intuitive Caroline Myss to vitamin guru Earl Mindell, it’s evident that Shelley Kaehr delights in bringing to light all the nuances of life’s deep, sweet mysteries. And so…

As AIHT prepares for a newly updated course on Gemstones for Spring 2006, we wanted to give the Vibrations audience an exciting “sneak peek” interview with the sprightly author of Origins of Huna; Lifestream; Galactic Healing; Beyond Reality; Gemstone Journeys; Edgar Cayce’s Guide to Gemstones, Minerals, Metals, and More; and Divination of God, to get her insights into the world of gemstones and healing.

As I spoke with her, I thought Shelley’s “crystalline knowledge” flows in muse-ical harmony with another mystical maven and another time, resonating like the lyrical, crystal-bright poetry of Stevie Nicks.

Crystal

“Do you always trust your first initial feeling?
Special knowledge holds truth, bears believing…
Then I knew, in the crystalline knowledge of you
Drove me like a magnet to the sea.”
—Fleetwood Mac ©1973

Vibrations: A song like that, and books like yours, are all about celebrating the high-speed resonance and the perfect rightness of nature. So…how exactly did you get rocks in your head? How did you develop this sweet reverence for crystals?

Shelley Kaehr: I grew up in New Mexico and my dad managed a turquoise jewelry company there. Later, we moved to Arizona where he was manager of the mining company for the Kingman and Bisbee turquoise mines, which are probably the most famous in the world. My mom was a long time geology enthusiast, so basically we were a family of “rock hounds.” We loved to take camping trips in Southern Colorado and explore—panning for gold or digging in fluorite mines. It was a pretty eclectic way to grow up and I always loved their free-spirited, trusting, adventurous ‘live and let live’ way of being. Although I loved being around rocks, consciously, I never understood the healing properties they have until many years later.

Vibrations: How did that come about?

Shelley Kaehr: Several years ago, I had a dream about a dark haired man and two weeks later I met him. He was a Native American shaman who taught me about the healing properties of minerals. He put a piece of fluorite on my forehead and told me to sit still. At first I didn’t think any thing would happen, but then suddenly I felt rushes of energy all over my body and I knew there was something to it.

Vibrations: Why do you think gem healing works?

Shelley Kaehr: There are two reasons:

  1. Because stones and minerals are like everything else in the physical universe—they all have different frequencies or vibrations. When you introduce any mineral into your energetic field, your energy begins to emulate the stone and different vibrations tend to attract different things to you, depending on what you need.

In my mind, there are only three things we all need and want—love, health and security. All stones energetically attract one of those things to the user.

  2. Most important is the fact that if I give you a stone and tell you this will make you happy, healthy and blissful and if you believe that, you will get what you think about, so the stone can serve as a focal point of your intent.

Vibrations: There are dozens of gem-stories in your book, and it was interesting to me that you categorized them chronologically, in the order that you discovered each one. That way you can avoid favoritism, since you don’t ascribe higher power to one or another. It’s all a very individualized interactive vibration anyway, isn’t it?

Shelley Kaehr: It is. When people shop for crystals, they are energetically attracted to a certain stone and they’ll pick that one up. It’s not really important to know why or what it’s doing for you, just to go with it.

What happens though is that after they select that first one, they’ll pick up another because it’s prettier, or smoother, or whatever. That is when the ego sets in and I advise them to go with the first thing they picked up because that is what they energetically need.

Vibrations: Your latest “gem,” Edgar Cayce’s Guide to Gemstones, Minerals, Metals, and More (soon to be an AIHT course) came about through a divine twist of fate. Tell us about that.

Shelley Kaehr: I became great friends with some people from the Edgar Cayce Foundation who sent me a copy of a little book published in 1960 on stones and the Cayce readings.

On my way to the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show the next year I was guided to take that little book with me and begin finding and working with those minerals.

After I got home, I felt guided to ask them about revising it. They said the week before I called they’d been in a meeting talking about updating it and felt I was to do it. It was a great blessing and honor for me.

Vibrations: Your new book, Divination of God, is a continuation of the Cayce book. What is it about?

Shelley Kaehr: The Cayce book has a whole section about stones in the Bible and through that research I was led to discover a Biblical divination tool, which is the subject of the new book. I love studying the divination systems—runes, tarot, shamanism. The book details the history of several tools of discernment from all over the world and the quest for mankind to communicate with a higher power.

Vibrations: Tell us about how the stones relate to your work as a hypnotherapist.

Shelley Kaehr: Several years ago I had become very ill and began to look into alternative therapies in my own healing and realized that the energetic self is real, and it needs as much or even more care than the physical body.

I want to teach this to people because I still don’t believe this concept is very prevalent in the main stream. The gems are a tangible way to get this idea across to people.

My work combines hypnosis with energy work because I believe that as we go through life, we get energetic blockages in our field and stagnant energy fields can lead to illness.

Modern physics tells us that we actually store memories holographically in our field, so if you come to the office for a regression, and address issues at a verbal level, that’s great, but if you can also clear the situation energetically it makes a profound and permanent shift that lasts.

Vibrations: You specialize in past life regression and have a book on parallel universes. How does that fit into healing?

Shelley Kaehr: To me, we are living in some sort of collective illusion and the reason why people suffer is often because of a distorted view of “the past,” which scientists now believe doesn’t even exist. If all time is now and it is all an illusion, hypnosis, or guided imagery is a powerful way to help people to reshape the way they perceive the illusion so the now can be a happier place to be.

My book, Beyond Reality, documents case studies of people with serious medical conditions who were taken back in time to the source of where those problems began and then asked to recreate a new reality where they are healthy and happy.

I think people with chronic illness often need to be reminded of what it’s like to feel good. I know I can speak for myself in that regard. I want to show this to them and help them on the path to health and will do whatever it takes to get that outcome, as long as its for the highest good.

Vibrations: I like your analogy, that many of our thoughts have gotten trapped amid the useless clutter of a dark basement or a dirty garage.

Shelley Kaehr: Yes, I was saying that I believe the subconscious mind is storing everything we ever experience and that through hypnosis or the use of certain stones such as kyanite which promotes dreaming, we can clear the clutter out and be more clearly connected to the divine.

The great news is that everything we need is already within us. All of my books are on different subjects, but the overall theme is that you are your own guru! Within every single one of us is the power to create our ideal life.

Vibrations: You wanted to mention something about your time at AIHT.

Shelley Kaehr: Yes, I think the education I received here was a critical part of my journey. When I first enrolled in the course, I knew it was my “hobby” and interest, but had no idea how it would actually unfold into a career. It’s like having faith.

You may not know where you’re going at first but as long as you take action in life, Spirit/Creator/God shows you the way, and the path is revealed. I feel like the luckiest person alive and I am grateful to the school for being a part of that. Attending AIHT was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!

A Bright Box of Rocks

Gemstone Journeys has some interesting tips on the care and cleaning of crystals, including how to bathe them in sunlight and moonlight—and dirt—with chemical-free distilled water, in glass rather than plastic, and just like us, avoiding overexposure to sun. Water can magnify the vibrations of many soothing stones into powerful elixirs!

A gorgeous guidebook that travels well in a backpack, this portable authority is a meteor shower of vibrant photos for easy identification, sprinkled amid the subtle shades of origins and folklore.

Swirling in the therapeutic properties of smooth gemstones such as turquoise and moonstone, tossing in the glimmer of “fool’s gold” and the beautiful rough cragginess of amethyst, all in all Gemstone Journeys is one bright box of rocks!
