Presenting a Solution to the Problem of "Allergies"
by Chester P. Yozwick, Nutritional Analyst
(PhD., Holistic Practitioner)

The Sane Approach to "Allergies"

William Howard Hay, M.D., a former medical practitioner, began adopting and applying Hygienic principles after many health problems. In his book, How to Always Be Well, he says: "Always remember that every case of hay fever, asthma, eczema, psoriasis, food sensitivity, or any evidence of allergy in any form is never anything else but this same imbalance, meaning that the alkaline reserve has shrunk so low that the continual formation of acid end products finds nothing to tie this excess or bind it into harmless compounds, and every evidence of allergy is entirely curable by a return to a normal acid-alkali ration in eating."

In my own personal experience in nutritional counseling and laboratory analysis work, I find that a depletion of the normal alkaline reserve is behind every case of sensitization of any kind. Such a depletion comes from an inadequate intake of alkaline (base-forming) foods or the over-consumption of acid-forming foods and usually consists of both. Essentially, the alkaline-forming foods are those foods that we eat, and the acid-forming foods, with the exception of nuts, are not natural foods for humans. Sensitizations of all types are present only because the body machinery is sadly out of repair, due to wrong eating and living habits, even though the general health of the person may seem good.

Research reveals that the average American meal is composed of 75% or more acid-forming material (meats, milk, cheeses, yogurt, eggs, legumes, grains, and nuts), with the small remaining percentage representing alkaline or base-forming material (fresh fruits and vegetables). Is it any wonder people suffer "allergies?" The suffering will continue unless this percentage is reversed.

Most of the alkaline-forming foods in the American diet usually end up on the table alright, but as the centerpiece! The fruit is seldom touched and seemingly looked upon as a permanent decoration. We can build an alkaline reserve out of vegetables and fruits but not through the art of interior decorating.

Keep in mind that nuts are acid-forming and should be eaten in small amounts, while fresh fruits, vegetables, and raw salads should be eaten in much larger amounts. The rule is 70-80% or more alkaline and no more than 20-30% acid. More acid-forming foods than this disturb the body's normal alkalinity and result in allergies, diseases, and other disorders.

When and only when the "allergy sufferer" (whether "allergic" to food or to pollen) attempts to adopt this ratio of acid-forming to base-forming foods as a daily eating habit, will the former symptoms of acid-alkali imbalance soon begin to disappear.

The True Definition of "Allergy"

According to Dr. Herbert M. Shelton, the foremost exponent of healthful living, " allergy' is a specific lack of body tolerance to a long-term toxemic condition. This condition is the basic cause of all inflammations of the lining membranes of the hollow organs of the body." So long as overindulging in denatured food is continued, it is impossible to overcome allergies.

"Allergies" as well as tooth decay, pimples, headaches, flu, colds, diabetes, heart trouble, cancer, arthritis, etc., are not causes but symptoms of the overall condition of the body. Any of these symptoms mark the end point of the body's tolerance for accumulation of internal waste matter. The body, in this condition, usually has an acid excess and an alkali depletion.

The answer, and only answer, lies in detoxification by fasting and proper modes of living; such as maintaining a proper acid-alkaline balance through proper diet, exercise, pure water, ample rest, sunshine, and fresh air.

The victim of "allergies" will no longer be troubled as soon as he is restored to health. The "allergy sufferer" will never again be affected by allergies as long as he maintains a high level of health. It is senseless to tolerate poor health year after year suffering with allergies.

When we are as well as we should be, we do not suffer from "allergies." None whatsoever! The person suffering from hay fever can change his diet to include only those foods natural to humans. Then his body chemistry will change to such a degree that he can literally wallow around in his former irritant regardless of what it happens to be, without even one single sneeze.

The "food allergy" victim can then eat freely of his former food offender without one slight discomfort, provided it is a wholesome food. He can have all the inherent pleasure in the eating of wholesome foods.

Must one flee to the mountains when hay fever season arrives? Must one refrain from eating the foods he enjoys for fear of former discomfort? Not if we are willing to attack the cause of "allergy" at its source, which is in every case the chemical state of the victim.

In conclusion, a normal healthy body is not subject to "allergies" of any kind, and it is possible to completely restore and normalize the body if we are willing to understand the fundamentals of correct feeding habits.

If you are to return your body to a normal healthy state, you must eat freely and largely of fresh raw fruits and vegetables and eat sparingly of animal proteins, legumes, grains, and nuts. By so doing, you will build up an alkaline reserve that will make "allergies" a part of yesterday, forever.

What? Get rid of animals, fruits, plants, and other vegetation? Not me! I don't care what they say, I won't live in a world without love.
