I have written articles, too numerous to count, on how we should
take care of ourselves physically, and I have always stressed the holistic
or total person approach to good health. But because holistic health is more
than just the body or the physical, it is time for me to address the mental
and spiritual aspect of better health.
Clinical studies show how important the mind is in the process of
recovery from disease. Just as we must exercise our body to be fit, so must
we exercise our mind to keep alert and awake. Someone once said that the
greatest instruments for the mind's stimulation are wonder and curiosity.
Boredom is a major disease, eroding the health of many adults who, over time,
narrow their spheres of interest.
Wonder and curiosity are the tools that all young children carry with
them in their interactions with the world. As a matter of fact, wonder and curiosity
are what make kids seem so alive. It seems as
we adults grow older we look at life's pace as too hectic, and we make a big
deal about watching sunsets. But I am here to tell you that you can recapture
that wonder and curiosity. There are no greater stimulants than new interests
and/or a consuming ongoing exploration to begin to awaken a person. So the
next time you see a person excited about something, instead of turning it off,
jump right into it and share in their interest. If you will carry your wonder and
curiosity into your older years, you will take your youth with you. Often, having
such a vibrant interest becomes a major force and motivation for staying healthy,
so that the exploration goes unobstructed.
Of the many people I am associated with, it is with great respect that I
look upon those of you affiliated with the metaphysical world. Be assured that you
are fortunate in having joined yourself to this enlightening movement. The dawn of
a new era is here, and you are selected as one of the crusaders that shall bear the
flag of truth on to victory.
It has been shown in clinical studies that people can prevent and overcome
disease more rapidly by using visualization. It is the process of making mental
images, and the image is the mold or model that will serve as a pattern from which
our future will emerge.
People in clinics with tumors have been recorded as diminishing and even
eliminating their tumors by using visualization methods. They are taught to focus on
the area of the growth and to visualize white blood cells attacking the tumor, until
they recover. This process, when used with proper feeding habits, is highly
successful.
Your thought contains a vital principle, because it is the constructive power
of the universe, and by its nature will combine with other similar thoughts. What is
the purpose of life but for growth and development? All principles underlying our
existence must contribute to that end. Thought, therefore takes form, and the law
of growth eventually brings it into manifestation.
The mind is part of the body. Each acts on the other. One of the two cannot
be ill without affecting the other. Hence, "A sound mind in a sound body," is the ideal. Not only are you what you eat, you eat because of how you think. Therefore you become what you think. We must be before we can do, and we can do only to the extent that we are, and what we are depends on what we think. "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he!"
