Joan Ladd, a 1997 graduate from AIHT with a Ph.D. in Metaphysics teamed up with another AIHT graduate while traveling to China this spring. Joan, who lives in the high Sierra Mountains of California visited Simon Lee, a 1996 graduate with a Ph.D. in Metaphysics, in his hometown of Xiamen this past April, May, and part of June. They became friends and shared their ideas of metaphysics, China, America, etc... Joan studied Qi Gong and Tai Chi for five weeks at the University of Xiamen. After she completed her studies she traveled throughout China for an additional three weeks. Her travels were focused in the Far West regions of China: Urumqi, Kashgar, and Turpan, which is where the ethnic minorities reside. A few of the highlights of her journey included staying in a Khazak yurt in the high mountains north of Urumqi and traveling along the ancient Silk Road through the Pamir Mountains to the town of Tashkurgan, which is near the Pakistani border. Altogether, Joan spent two months in China and said it was a pleasure to meet Simon and have the opportunity to know his country. Simon is planning on visiting Joan in California in the near future and Joan too will someday return to China to visit her friend Simon Lee, once again. Joan says "we shall remain lasting friends," and that she learned a lot from Simon about being Chinese and living in China. Simon hopes that other graduates from AIHT will have the opportunity to come to China and meet him in Xiamen. If anyone is considering venturing to China in the near future, Joan says that she would be glad to share her experiences with them. Simon would like to meet other students from AIHT as well.
